Moonee Valley City Council will honour the victims and all those impacted by the Bondi Beach terrorist attack on the National Day of Mourning, Thursday 22 January 2026.

Council is inviting the community to sign a condolence book at the Civic Centre on Thursday or share their messages via Council’s digital channels to show support and condolence to mark the National Day of Mourning. The condolence book will be available for a week.

Flags will also be flown at half-mast and the Clocktower Centre will be lit as a visible symbol of solidarity.

In line with Bondi’s Chabad community request, the theme of this memorial is ‘Light will win, a gathering of unity and remembrance’.

Mayor of Moonee Valley, Cr Dr Rose Iser, encouraged all residents to write a message of empathy and hope.

“Out of this unbearably tragic event, we can unite as a community. We invite our community, all faiths and backgrounds, to come together to acknowledge suffering as well as hope,” Cr Dr Iser said.

“Local governments across Australia are enacting visible and symbolic tribute to share grief and encourage goodwill.”

Moonee Valley City Council also encourages local residents to participate in Mitzvahs for Bondi.

A Mitzvah is a Jewish tradition that embraces an act of kindness or compassion. It can be a simple or everyday action that includes volunteering, donations or support for others in need.

“You may also choose to leave a candle on your doorstep or window,” Cr Dr Iser said.

“At 7.01pm, across Australia, a minute of silence may be observed to remember the 15 people who were lost on 14 December 2025.”
