We offer monthly grants, biannual grants, multi-year partnerships and grants for urgent (unforeseen) circumstances.

Who can apply for a Community Grant?

We have different grants available for:

  • First Peoples and First Peoples-led organisation and businesses
  • community groups and not-for-profit organisations
  • local businesses, social enterprises, sole traders and trader associations
  • individuals (including artists).

Community Grants available

Responsive (monthly) Grants

Applications are open year-round from the 2nd of each month.

Individual Participation - up to $500: For residents facing financial hardship to participate in select sports, arts and educational activities.

Business Support - up to $500: Small storefront and outdoor space beautification projects

Community Support - up to $1,000: Small community projects, events or group start-up.

 

Guidelines:

Biannual Grants (twice a year)

The next round, Round 1 2025/26, will open on 24 July 2025 and closes on 24 August 2025.

First Peoples Grants - up to $10,000: Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and organisations to deliver local projects.

Social Support Grants - up to $1,500: Operational funding for small social support groups run by volunteers.

Community Projects Grants - up to $10,000: One-off community projects, pilot programs and small capital works.

Climate Action Grants - up to $10,000: Renewable energy transitions and community projects promoting climate resilience.

Arts and Events Grants - up to $10,000: Arts projects and events or festivals that benefit the Moonee Valley community.

Business Projects Grants - up to $5,000: Small storefront and outdoor space beautification and inclusion or collaboration projects.

 

Guidelines:

Partnership (every 2-4 years)

The next round will open on 24 July 2025 and closes on 24 August 2025. Funding for up to two years will be available.

Up to $20,000 per year: Two-to-four-year funding for community service organisations.

Extraordinary community support (ongoing pool)

Applications are open year round until funds are exhausted.

A one-off grant up to $50,000 for eligible community organisations seeking financial support from Council for extraordinary circumstances.

To apply for a Community Grant, you must read the relevant Community Grants Guidelines document (above) then complete an online application form.

Community Grant writing workshops

During each round of Biannual Community Grants, the Community Grants team run several free grant writing workshops online and in person. These workshops are designed to help you develop your skills in grant writing and budget preparation for all streams of Biannual Community Grants.

Council should be acknowledged on all promotional material relating to the program funded by a Council grant, either through use of Council’s logo (preferred) or a written statement.

Written acknowledgement

If you cannot include Council's logo in a letter, media release, website or anywhere else, please include one of the below written acknowledgement options:

  • This initiative is proudly supported by Moonee Valley City Council through its biannual grants program.
  • ‘Recipient name’ wishes to acknowledge Moonee Valley City Council for its financial support through the biannual grants program.

For flyers, posters and other promotional material please acknowledge Council by using our logo.
