Entries for the national contemporary art prize, the Incinerator Art Award, open on Saturday, 1 April 2023.

With a total prize pool of $12,000, the prestigious Incinerator Art Award offers three categories: the $10,000 Incinerator Art Award, the $1000 Moonee Valley Mayoral Award, and the $1000 People's Choice Award.

Now in its ninth year, the award is presented by the City of Moonee Valley’s premier home of visual arts, the iconic Incinerator Gallery in Aberfeldie.

The Incinerator Art Award is open to all arts forms and welcomes submissions from artists across the country addressing the theme of art for social change.

The award pays homage to the original architects of the former Essendon Incinerator, Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony, whose offices designed the facility, and who believed art and architecture are ethical enterprises that should aim to bring about positive social change.

Shortlisted artworks will be exhibited at the Incinerator Gallery from Saturday, 7 October to Sunday, 19 November, with winners of the Incinerator Art Award and the Moonee Valley Mayoral Award announced at the exhibition opening on Friday, 6 October.

The People’s Choice Award will be voted on by gallery visitors, and announced on Wednesday, 22 November.

The Incinerator Art Award Call for Entries closes on Monday, 15 May 2023.
