Join the Youth Committee at the Flemington Youth Hub

Do you live on the Flemington public housing estate? Do you want to make a difference in your community? Council are seeking applications from young people (aged 15 – 25) to be a part of the Flemington Youth Committee.
What is the Flemington Youth Hub?
There has been a gap in opportunities for young people since the closure of the Flemington Community Centre. Young people have expressed a need and aspiration for a safe and inclusive place to socialise and learn, and for opportunities to participate in activities in the afternoon and on the weekends.
The development of a temporary youth hub will enable the programming of activities for young people on the Flemington Estate. Council is currently using the Flemington Community Pop-up for activities and is also partnering with Debney Meadows Primary School to use their community room for this purpose. A youth committee will be established and supported to program a range of activities, based on consultation with other young people. The activities, events, and programs will be delivered by June 2023.
What will the Flemington Youth Committee do?
The Flemington Youth Committee will:
- Be responsible for developing a calendar of events for young people connected to Flemington. This includes making informed decisions about:
- How best to use available funds for programming
- Prioritising issues that are most important to young people
- What programs, services and activities young people want and need.
- Promote youth activities and encourage other young people to take part.
- Shape how the DMPS community room and the Flemington Community Pop-up are used to support young people, including what equipment is available and how other young people engage in the spaces.
Why should I join?
- Have your voice heard and help shape youth activities in Flemington
- Make a difference in your community
- Learn new skills, including leadership and decision making
- Receive a professional reference or letter of recommendation.
What is the time commitment?
Flemington Youth Committee members must commit to participating in committee meetings for up to 18 hours between November and January. The length and frequency of meetings will be agreed upon at the first meeting in November. By way of example, meetings might be held fortnightly for 1.5 hours per meeting.
Meetings will take place at Flemington, or any other suitable location from time to time.
Flemington Youth Committee members will receive a reimbursement of $25 per hour for each meeting attended. We may also be able to provide equipment or services for you that best enable your participation. Talk to the team about what you might need and what can be provided.
