Festivals ready to ignite the Valley

Electric Fields press shot

The City of Moonee Valley launches its 2024 festival season with electric and eclectic lineups across major events in February and March.

Multi award-winning Aboriginal Australian electronic duo Electric Fields will lead a sizzling lineup when the Moonee Valley Festival makes a triumphant return to Queens Park in Moonee Ponds on Saturday, 24 February 2024.

And what better way to bring back the City of Moonee Valley’s flagship event than with double the fun? To welcome back the much-missed free community festival to its traditional home for the first time since 2018, this year’s event will be an epic day and night out, spread across 11 hours in two distinct events.

From 10am-5pm, Moonee Valley Festival will take over picturesque Queens Park in a day of food and market stalls, and free family-friendly activities and entertainment from artists including comedy duo The Listies and the uplifting Team Dream.

After 5pm, the festival transforms into Moonee Valley After Dark. As the sun sets, a section of Queens Park will become a magical wonderland of illuminations, live music and DJs that will keep the party alive well into the night.

Joining the electro-soul stylings of Electric Fields will be ‘90s Australian pop sensation Joanne (we can’t wait for the Jackie singalong), Naarm-based DJ Aqueerius, special guest host (and RuPaul Drag Race Down Under finalist) Karen from Finance and more on the ‘Trucked Up’ stage.

City of Moonee Valley Mayor, Cr Pierce Tyson, said the return of Moonee Valley Festival was a key component of the council’s recently launched arts and culture strategy, Igniting Creativity in Moonee Valley 23-27.
“This is an experience not to be missed,” said Mayor Tyson. “And it’s just the beginning of what promises to be a huge festival season for Moonee Valley.”

Returning in March will be community favourites the Lincoln Park Twilight Concert in Essendon and the Mediterranean Fiesta in Keilor East, adding their unique flavours to an incredible line-up of free community events in Moonee Valley.

And here come the drums! The Twilight Concert on Saturday, 2 March features electro-rock sensations Rogue Traders, fronted by the original ‘voodoo child’ herself, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, as well as Melbourne rock chicks The Lost Girls and DJ Be Kind to Other People. There will also be plenty of food trucks and kids’ activities.

As its name suggests, the Mediterranean Fiesta on Saturday, 23 March promises a day of multicultural delights, featuring live music, performances and kids’ activities, and delicious food and refreshments.

“These events have become beloved traditions, providing additional opportunities for the community to come together and celebrate the richness of our diverse culture,” said Mayor Tyson.
