MEDIA RELEASE: Ascot Vale Library Set for Expansion and Renewal to Meet Community Needs

Ascot Vale Library

Ascot Vale Library is set to undergo a multi-million-dollar expansion and renewal project, following Moonee Valley City Council’s final budget endorsement on Tuesday, 27 June.

After years of valuable community feedback which informed the library’s infrastructure planning, $5.12 million has been allocated to the library’s expansion in the 2023/24 financial year, which includes $1.5 million in funds from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program. Council’s approved total budget includes $51.97 million in capital works and $212 million for critical community services.

Mayor of Moonee Valley, Cr Pierce Tyson said Council was committed to investing in high-quality facilities that are accessible, ensuring that everyone in our community can equitably enjoy our beautiful city.

“The project will enhance the library’s service delivery and meet the evolving requirements of our Ascot Vale community,” Mayor Tyson said.

Features and benefits of the upgrade include:

  • an enlarged children’s area and increased study space. The significantly larger children’s area will provide a vibrant and engaging space for young readers. Additionally, the library will offer significantly more study spaces, catering to the growing demand for a conducive environment for learning and research.
  • digitally equipped meeting and multi-purpose spaces.
  • increased public access to bookable spaces. The upgrade will enable community groups, organisations, and individuals to utilise the library’s facilities for various activities, events, and meetings.
  • additional public computers.
  • a public kitchenette, offering convenience to library users.
  • enhanced accessibility. The inclusive design of the upgrade will make the entire library, including the first floor, fully accessible to individuals with mobility issues, ensuring equal access and opportunities for all.
  • a new Changing Places Toilet facility, ensuring accessibility and convenience for individuals with specific needs.
