Bunjil’s Marroun Healing Ceremony 2026

Moonee Valley City Council invites community members to come together and reflect this January 26 at Bunjil’s Marroun Healing Ceremony.

Now in its eighth year, the ceremony gives Moonee Valley residents an opportunity to hear from Traditional Owners about the impacts of colonisation on First Nations people, families and communities.

In 2026, Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elder Uncle Andrew Gardiner will perform the Welcome to Country, and Dr Aunty Jill Gallagher AO will deliver the keynote address.

A Yidaki performance from Ganga Giri and music from Pirritu and band are also planned.

Moonee Valley City Council Mayor Dr Rose Iser said the event was part of Moonee Valley’s commitment to truth telling and healing.

“We know that, for many First Peoples, January 26 is a reminder of the dispossession and injustice that began with colonisation – as well as a testament to Indigenous resilience and survival.”

“Our Healing ceremony is an opportunity for reflection for all of us and offers a path for genuine and meaningful Reconciliation.

“We are grateful to First Peoples’ Elders and leaders who will join with us and lead this year’s ceremony.

“We hope you will join us on this important day for the whole Moonee Valley community.”

Moonee Valley will also host a Citizenship Ceremony at 2pm at the Clocktower Centre on 26 January to celebrate local residents who are becoming Australian citizens.
