MVCC Bunjils Marroun Healing Ceremony

Moonee Valley City Council has unanimously supported the introduction of its Bagarru Bagarru Djerring (Shoulder to Shoulder Together) Reconciliation Plan and Policy for 2022-25.

At Council’s Meeting on Tuesday 14 March, Councillors voted to formally endorse the Reconciliation Plan and Policy.

Moonee Valley City Council Mayor Cr Pierce Tyson said the resolution reaffirms Council’s ongoing and genuine commitment to respect Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Peoples and the broader Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

“Moonee Valley pays tribute to the resilience of First Peoples’ culture and enduring legacy, and the Bagarru Baggarru Djerring Reconciliation Plan will help steer our municipality towards meaningful engagement and Reconciliation.

“We acknowledge the hurt that continues to be experienced by First Nations people and believe Council has a role to play in building conversations towards healing and recognition.

“The Reconciliation Plan was developed in partnership with Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elders and community advocates and ensures we can embark on a renewed journey together,” said Mayor Tyson.

Members of Mooneee Valley’s Reconciliation Working Group will now be invited to join a new Advisory Group – Marra Wirrigirri (Community Messengers) – that will work directly with Council to further strengthen the relationships with Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Corporation and other Aboriginal organisations and peoples in the Moonee Valley community.
