Mayor Byrne on State advisory panel

Moonee Valley Mayor Samantha Byrne says that she will use her appointment to the Victorian Government’s Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel (LGMAP) to promote community-led advocacy, economic support and mental health infrastructure in 2022.

“I look forward to this opportunity to bring our Council’s values and our strong focus on community advocacy to this advisory body,” Mayor Byrne said.

The LGMAP is a statutory advisory panel of ten Victorian Mayors who advise the Minister for Local Government over the course of the year. They provide advice on legislative and policy decisions that impact the local government sector, as well as presenting ideas and opportunities for improving the local government sector.

“I am honoured by this appointment alongside my fellow Mayors in this critical year for the direction of our state and country”, Mayor Byrne said.

“It is important that local governments can advocate with our State partners for ongoing pandemic recovery support, improved health services – particularly youth mental health – and vital infrastructure that aligns with our community’s future.

“I am also excited to advocate for our participatory approach to community advocacy, at this level, and to learn from fellow local representatives.”
