Live music will be ringing out from even more venues across Moonee Valley in 2025, thanks to a $37,000 grant from the Live and Local program to boost the city’s live music scene.

Building on the success of this year’s Valley Sounds music event series, this funding will expand opportunities for local musicians and businesses to create events together, fostering a vibrant night-time economy.

Live and Local is an established local government program developed by The Live Music Office (Sydney) and supported by Australasian Performing Right Association Limited (APRA), Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS) and Creative Australia.

The grant will support three key initiatives:

  • Micro-festival eventslocal businesses (traditional and non-traditional music venues) are supported to host local musicians in a curated program.
  • Professional development – local musicians will gain valuable industry skills through targeted development programs.
  • Industry forum – Council and local stakeholders will collaborate on strategies to grow Moonee Valley’s live music ecosystem.

Moonee Valley City Council Mayor, Councillor Pierce Tyson, said he was excited by the program’s potential to enhance the city’s cultural landscape.

“This is an incredible opportunity for Moonee Valley,” Mayor Tyson said. “Not only will we be continuing the momentum created by Valley Sounds, but we’ll be laying the groundwork for a sustainable and thriving live music scene that will in turn help build our night-time economy.

“Our commitment to fostering creativity and supporting our local artists is unwavering, and a cornerstone of our arts and culture strategy, Igniting Creativity in Moonee Valley 23-27.“The Live and Local program will be instrumental in helping us achieve our strategic goals, and we’re excited to see the positive impact it will have on our community.”

The project is due to begin before the end of the year, with the micro-festival events slated for May 2025. Artists and businesses can email ignitingcreativity@mvcc.vic.gov.au to learn more.
