Moonee Valley opens EOI for highball stadium

EOI basketball stadium media release

The development of a new indoor sports stadium is one step closer with Moonee Valley City Council preparing to call for Expressions of Interest in a Public-Private Partnership to help deliver the project.

The Expressions of Interest (EOI) will assess funding, suitable locations and potential development options from market respondents interested in building the proposed highball stadium.

Moonee Valley City Council Mayor, Cr Pierce Tyson, said Moonee Valley currently lacks the adequate facilities for hosting competitive-grade basketball, netball and other indoor sports. He said the EOI will assist in determining market proponents wanting to partner with Council in designing a new purpose-built stadium for community use.

“Moonee Valley has one of the highest participation rates for netball and basketball in Victoria and increased take up by women and girls is particularly strong.

“As our community grows, so too is our enthusiasm for reconnecting with the sports we love. A stadium housing multiple indoor playing courts will provide a high-grade venue for harnessing the talents of young local sportspeople – whether that be at amateur or professional competition level,” said Mayor Tyson.

“A highball stadium will give the people of Moonee Valley modern, multi-purpose infrastructure where they can practice and hone their sporting skills, build new social networks and focus on the games that excite and unite our community.
