Moonee Valley successful recipient of Access for All Abilities Community Sports Grant
Moonee Valley Mayor Councillor Samantha Byrne welcomes the Minister for Community Sport’s announcement of more than $120,000 funding to support the delivery of a new program, MOVE Moonee Valley Swim and Social, in Moonee Valley later this year.
On Tuesday, 5 April The Hon. Ros Spence MP announced that Council will receive funding through the Victorian Government’s Access for Abilities 2021-23 Program to support the co-designed pilot program which will increase opportunities for people with disabilities in Moonee Valley to participate in swimming and aquatic recreation activities across Moonee Valley’s MOVE Leisure Centres.
This new and exciting opportunity will complement the broad range of MOVE Moonee Valley initiatives available to the community, particularly MOVE Moonee Valley’s existing GOSwim program.
MOVE Moonee Valley Swim and Social, will be delivered in partnership with Swimming Victoria and Belgravia Leisure and will offer a range of accessible swimming and swim leisure activities, including social events for people with disability in Moonee Valley.
Moonee Valley Mayor, Cr Samantha Byrne said the program is another way in which Council is making Moonee Valley a fair city, as part of its long-term strategic plan – MV2040.
“Our community have told us that access to leisure facilities is an important avenue for exercise and social connection for people with disabilities in Moonee Valley. This co-designed program will support everyone in our community to participate in and enjoy the great facilities we have here in Moonee Valley.”
“It’s really exciting that we can make the most of our new state-of-the-art leisure centre in Keilor East as part of this new program. We’re so proud of this amazing facility for our community and we can’t wait to see everyone enjoying this space and all it has to offer”, the Mayor said.
The new Keilor East Leisure Centre, Moonee Valley’s largest-ever capital works project, opened in November 2021 and provides state-of-the-art accessible recreation facilities, including accessible change facilities. Council has also received funding from the Victorian Government to install a Changing Places facility at the Ascot Vale Leisure Centre with the renovation to be completed this year.
