Moonee Valley urges State election candidates to ‘get on board’

MVCC Advocacy Strategy 2022-2025

Moonee Valley City Council is calling on State election candidates to ‘get on board’ and commit to supporting the delivery of its advocacy priorities as detailed in its Advocacy Strategy 2022-2025.

“Council has developed a comprehensive program of initiatives that we cannot deliver without the funding or support of other stakeholders including the State and Federal Government or external partners,” Moonee Valley City Council Mayor Samantha Byrne said.

“With the State election just months away we want to encourage all local candidates to support these initiatives which will help strengthen our community and provide more opportunities for our local residents”.

The Advocacy Strategy identifies the community’s top priorities, where Council seeks the support of other stakeholders, including:

  • encouraging active and sustainable transport – including a Western Gateway Station;
  • expanding youth mental health support services across the municipality;
  • building the Niddrie Library and Community Hub;
  • revitalising the heritage Incinerator Gallery;
  • investing in quality early years facilities and kinder education;
  • streetscape renewal and road safety at major intersections, including the critical works required at the Moonee Ponds Junction;
  • investing in local sporting facilities including a highball stadium, activating Windy Hill and investing in soccer infrastructure
  • Creating a regional playground at Rosehill Park

Mayor Byrne invited all State election candidates to commit to being ‘on board’ with Moonee Valley’s advocacy priorities and help deliver outcomes for the community following recent periods of immense change and instability.

“Moonee Valley is a community of opportunity but we need our State candidates to promise to help us thrive by committing to the delivery of our priorities.  As one of the hardest-hit communities during the pandemic now is the time to invest in critical infrastructure that will see our community prosper going forward.”

“At Moonee Valley City Council, we believe advocacy is one of the most important roles of local government. As the closest level of government to the community, we are capable of delivering so much more when we partner with the right stakeholders to get the best outcomes for our community, both now and into the future,” Mayor Byrne said.
