Council’s long-term vision, MV2040, outlines an initiative that Keilor Road will be a revitalised and inviting centre with a mix of small and large businesses, cafes and restaurants supported by a strong transport network.
Council has been exploring a range of ways to contribute to this vision, including working with businesses and traders’ associations, undertaking transport and strategic planning
to enhance the neighbourhood, providing community facilities and improvements to the public realm.
When we asked the community what they would like to see in the new Keilor Road streetscape, there was an overwhelming desire expressed for more greenery, including canopy street tree planting. In addition to greenery, there were also requests for more seating and gathering spaces for the community.
We are delighted to be able to deliver a streetscape plan that focuses on:
- Increased greenery
- Improved pedestrian safety
- Creation of a pedestrian friendly environment
- Rationalise and declutter the existing streetscape
- Consistent look and feel along Keilor Road
The streetscape will be delivered in two stages:
- Keilor Road – Streetscape Improvement (North) – Streetscape improvements between Matthews Ave and Treadwell Rd in Niddrie have been completed
- Keilor Rd – Streetscape Improvement (East) – Additional streetscape improvements are planned between Hoffmans Rd and Cooper St, Niddrie are planned for later in 2025. Design is underway with completion of the design due in the third quarter of 2025.
