Bunjil’s Marroun
Healing Ceremony
Moonee Valley City Council hosts Bunjil's Marroun Healing Ceremony annually as a commitment to truthtelling and healing.
The ceremony is an opportunity for the Aboriginal community, Moonee Valley residents and visitors to come together to listen to Traditional Owner Elders and other Aboriginal voices as they reflect on the impacts of colonisation on their families and communities.
Moonee Valley’s annual Healing Ceremony to be held at Essendon’s Woodlands Park on Monday, 26 January 2026.
The ceremony will commence at 5.30pm with an Acknowledgement of History delivered by Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Elder Uncle Andrew Gardiner, Smoking Ceremony performed by Wurundjeri man Daniel Ross followed by keynote speaker Dr Aunty Jill Gallagher, and a performance by Ganga Giri and dancers and Pirritu and band.
We acknowledge that this day can cause pain to members of our community. This event is an opportunity to acknowledge past and ongoing injustices to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and learn about what the day means to them.
Moonee Valley City Council is committed to strengthening our partnership with Wurundjeri and working towards Treaty.
