New pump track for Moonee Valley to ride scoot and skate

A new pop-up modular pump track has just arrived in Moonee Valley. Suitable for bikes, scooters and skateboards, the highly anticipated pump track is located at Montgomery Park in Essendon.

Mayor of Moonee Valley, Samantha Byrne, said Council is answering the call for extra outdoor recreational activities across the city with the new pump track, and is thrilled that community members of all ages will be able to get their legs pumping and keep active in a fun new way.

“We heard from hundreds of young people, parents and the wider community, telling us they want improved BMX and mountain bike facilities in Moonee Valley,” said Cr Byrne.

“Council is committed to listening to the voices of our community, particularly our younger members, and creating spaces they can safely enjoy with their friends and family, within their own neighborhood.

The pop-up pump track is just one of a number of new projects Council is working on to provide purpose-built bike facilities, which will enable riders of all ages to participate in the sports and activities they love.

“The pump track is a fantastic addition to the already popular Montgomery Park. The track is a hard-wearing surface which will allow BMX, mountain bike, scooter and skateboard users to coexist and enjoy the exciting new circuit together,” said Cr Byrne.

The modular nature of the system means the pump track can be easily assembled, for quick installation on-site.

Over the coming months Council will assess the use of the pump track to inform any decisions around a more permanent track option for Montgomery Park.

The mobile track may also be transferred to other parks throughout Moonee Valley, increasing equity of access to skate, BMX and mountain bike sports across the entire municipality.
