No parking at Showgrounds or Flemington, take public transport

Take public transport this weekend, Moonee Valley City Council urges horse-racing and Show patrons
Moonee Valley City Council encourages people to “leave cars at home” this weekend, with over 60,000 Show patrons and horse race-goers expected to converge on the municipality.
Congestion is expected to peak on Saturday with an estimated 50,000-strong attendance at the Melbourne Royal Show coinciding with 12,000 people also expected at Flemington Racecourse for Turnbull Stakes Day.
The warning comes after last week’s extra-long weekend, when residential Ascot Vale streets were jammed with traffic, as Show-goers looked in vain for carparking in residential areas.
‘Plan ahead’, urges Mayor
Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Samantha Byrne urged all Melbourne Royal Show and race-goers to “plan ahead and jump on public transport this weekend”, as the usual parking options were not going to be available.
“Traditionally, those attending the Show have been able to park at Flemington Racecourse,” said Cr Byrne. “This will not be the case on Saturday, as the races are on too. There will also be no parking available in the surrounding areas, which are permit zoned for residents only.”
Residents are advised to call Flemington Police Station on (03) 93716100 if access to their property is blocked by an illegally parked car on the weekend. In an emergency, call police on Triple Zero (000) for assistance.
Extra public transport services
Extra train and tram services are already in place for the school holidays, which continue throughout this weekend.
A free shuttle bus will also be available from Moonee Valley Racecourse to transport patrons to and from the Showgrounds.
Show-goers are encouraged to visit this webpage to view train, tram and bus options to reach the Melbourne Showgrounds, which has its own dedicated train station.
Racegoers are also reminded that Flemington Racecourse is serviced by its own train station.
