Our street infrastructure boxes need art!
Published on Thursday, 9 March 2023

Infrastructure boxes across Moonee Ponds are ready for a refreshing lick of paint.
We are on the hunt for a local experienced artist or artistic collective to get involved with Art Box, a program that beautifies our Moonee Ponds areas by decorating infrastructure boxes.
The boxes have been painted a number of times and are now ready to be refreshed and refurbished, prompting this project.
The proposed art box designs will need to:
- Be suitable for a general public audience, avoiding text, image or messaging content which could be deemed offensive;
- Have an artwork style which is easy for the public to understand;
- Respond to the site in some way, ‘speaking’ to the area or community;
- Be economically and environmentally sustainable;
- Not breach Intellectual Property Rights (somebody else’s idea);
- Not include trademarks, branding or business names, logos or copyrighted images;
- Not include images that resemble graffiti or tags.
What else do you need to know:
- Artist or group of artists are sought to paint the art boxes.
- Quotation requires CV and portfolio of artworks.
- Council and the artist will work together and agree to a site by site risk management plan and responsibilities.
- The artworks must be painted with suitably durable material to remain in place for a period of 3 to 5 years
- Application of quality anti-graffiti coating to all artworks is compulsory.
- The painting must be completed by Monday, 10 July 2023
Applications close on Friday 24 March. Please read the Request for Quotation for Services: Art Box Project 2023 for details and how to apply. You can contact Colin Joe via email CJoe@mvcc.vic.gov.au for more information.
