Ready, steady, cycle: Biketober comes to Moonee Valley

Moonee Valley is a great place to see from atop a bicycle. The municipality has a huge 885km of pedestrian and cycling routes that connect residential areas with key destinations, such as shopping precincts, schools, parks, and transport hubs.
This October, Moonee Valley City Council is encouraging residents, workplaces, schools, and community groups to get involved in Biketober, a free, month-long celebration of biking that kicks off on Wednesday 1 October.
Biketober is all about helping more people discover the joy of riding – whether it’s commuting to work, popping down the shops or simply having fun. The challenge is open to everyone, regardless of experience or fitness level.
It is simple to get involved. Whether it’s a short trip to the shops, a daily commute or a weekend ride down the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, Steele Creek Trail or Maribyrnong River Trail. An added bonus is that there is local, national and industry leaderboards with great prizes to be won.
Moonee Valley City Council Mayor Cr Ava Adams said active transport was a key commitment of MV2040, council’s long-term vision, which seeks to achieve a city that is low carbon through transport by 2040.
“This challenge is a great way to support these sustainable initiatives in Moonee Valley.”
“We have many amazing tracks around the municipality to get riding this October! Together we can work towards a net zero Moonee Valley,” said Cr Adams.
“Biketober is for everyone and every ride counts. It is an opportunity to get active and reduce your carbon footprint.”
Registration is quick and free. Participants can ride solo or as part of a workplace, school or community group.
