What you need to know

Our Transfer Station

The Transfer Station is open to all residents and trade customers.

Moonee Valley’s Transfer Station offers a community waste and recycling service for many items that can't go into recycling your bins at home. It is not a commercial waste and recycling service, only accepting vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (dual cab utility or some light trucks).

Address: 188 Holmes Road, Aberfeldie

Phone: (03) 8325 1730

Opening hours:

Monday to Saturday: 8am – 4pm
Sunday: 8am – 1pm
Closed on all public holidays.

Extreme temperature closure

The Transfer Station will close to the public when temperatures reach above 36°C in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety standards and signage will be placed on the front gate.

Fees

  • Reduce your fees by separating your load. For example, keep hard waste separate from green waste and only pay for half a load of each. Garbage that is not separated will incur higher fees.
  • A car boot load of green waste is free for residents of Moonee Valley. You must show proof of residence, for example a current photo ID or a current rates notice.
  • We do not accept trucks in excess of 2.5GVM.

Instead of throwing it away, can someone repair it?

Instead of ordering a hard waste collection or recycling/disposing of material at the Transfer Station, have you considered whether your item can be repaired? When we choose to repair, previously loved items remain ours (or somebody else’s) for years to come. If you have anything to repair or give away visit Fixable or HYYRO

Soft Plastics

At the Moonee Valley transfer station we accept most soft plastics. We have 2 bins. We ask that the community place their soft plastics in the bin corresponding to the type of soft plastic.

What are soft plastics ?

If you can scrunch it into a ball, then it can be placed in soft plastic recycling. The Moonee Valley Transfer Station provides a soft plastic free drop off service. Please separate your clear soft plastics and coloured soft plastics. This will help the processing plant achieve better recycling outcomes for both categories. Please note that we accept household quantities only.

Please also make sure your soft plastic items are clean and dry so that they are not separated as contamination and sent to landfill. All paper labels must be removed.
