Moonee Valley will once again come alive at night for its free micro-music festival, Valley Sounds 2025, where music lovers can revel in live performances across the municipality from 23 May – 1 June as part of the Live and Local program.

Programmed as part of Moonee Valley City Council’s Igniting Creating Strategy, audiences can head to the local venues where the likes of music royalty Ella Hooper, hip-hop and soul powerhouse Radical Son, all-Indigenous dynamic female group Stiff Gins, will all take to stages, along with many more incredible acts.

The incredible live music line-up will take over bars, restaurants and even a few unexpected venues for the whole community to come along and experience. The council is pleased to support the local night-time economy throughout the cooler months, giving residents and visitors a reason to rug up and head out.

Highlights of the Valley Sounds program include:

Friday, 23 May: opening night at Penny Lane Palace Cinema Rooftop, headlined by multi-award winner Ella Hooper, (pictured) an icon who has come incredibly far since her humble beginnings with Killing Heidi. Also taking to the stage on opening night is Radical Son, renowned for his magnetic performances, spell-binding vocals and a style that fuses hip hop, soul and a powerful connection to Country and his cultural roots. Vocalist, DJ and producer Amutha will also launch the festival, with her passion for rave culture, facilitating a transformative experience for the audience.

Saturday, 24 May: International Post-Pop Art Rockers, The Great Emu War Casualties, will perform at the Essendon Bowls Club. One of the most impulsive, expressive and eccentric bands around, capturing audiences with glorious and infectious rhythm.

Friday, 30 May: Indie rock’n’roll artist Dan Vogl will head to the stage at Mt Alexander Hotel. Known for teaching himself how to play guitar, Dan has gone on to support the likes of British India, Bob Evans, Pseudo Echo as well as performances at The Hills Are Alive Festival and the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival.

Saturday, 31 May: Soulful singer-songwriter Gabby Steel will perform at Holmes Hall, belting out her blended sounds of folk, indie pop, blues, and soul.

Mayor of Moonee Valley Cr Ava Adams said:

“Valley Sounds is a great way to continue our successful 2025 festival season, while supporting our local venues and the talented musicians who will be taking to the stage. I can’t wait to see our community come out in support of a fabulous festival with such as impressive line-up. It will have everyone dancing the night away.”

Also taking to various stages at Valley Sounds will be: Aydan x Rgnz, Cooper Lower, Trasch Talkin, Annie and the Make Believe and Paulo Almedia, with more announcements to be made in the coming weeks.
