Volunteers recognised at annual Thank You event

Volunteers at the 2025 Thank You event

More than 100 volunteers have been honoured for their tireless dedication to helping Moonee Valley at this week’s Volunteers Thank You event at the Clocktower Centre.

The event coincided with National Volunteer Week (May 19-25), which this year celebrated the theme ‘Connecting Communities’ to recognise the power of volunteering to bring people together.

Attendees were recognised for their services across 13 volunteer programs, with a stirring speech from Walking School Bus volunteer Rezilia Maramis the highlight.

Mayor Cr Ava Adams, and fellow councillors Deputy Mayor Cr Fran Cosgriff and Cr Hamish Jones were in attendance to celebrate the remarkable achievements and sacrifices made by our volunteers to build a stronger and more connected Moonee Valley.

We are grateful to have volunteers that provide invaluable contributions across a wide variety of programs:
  • Avenue Productions
  • Ballroom Dancing
  • Community Transport
  • Home Library Services
  • Incinerator Gallery
  • Mens Shed
  • Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee
  • City Futures
  • Djerring Hub
  • L2P
  • The Lab
  • DriveLink
  • Walking School Bus

Quotes attributable to Mayor Cr Ava Adams:

Over the past year our volunteer programs have expanded, and we now have 110 volunteers working across 13 different programs – every one of them devoting their time and energy to make Moonee Valley a more vibrant and connected place.”

While I suspect that none of you volunteer because you’re seeking recognition or reward, tonight, on behalf of everyone in Moonee Valley – I thank you for all that you do.”

Quotes attributable to Moonee Valley City Council CEO Helen Sui:

“Volunteers are an essential part of almost everything we do at Moonee Valley City Council—from aged care and disability care; community welfare; sports and the arts; to emergency preparedness and recovery; and environmental sustainability and protection.”

“I thank every one of you for the role you play in enriching lives, fostering community engagement, and helping to make Moonee Valley a wonderful place to live, work and play.
