What you told us in the Community Satisfaction Survey 2025

In February and March this year, council representatives door-knocked Moonee Valley residents to ask about their experience with Council services and facilities, and seek feedback on our governance and leadership, planning and development work, and customer service. We also asked participants to list the issues they most wanted Council to address.
The Community Satisfaction Survey was conducted as a random, in-person interview. This was the first time Moonee Valley conducted the survey in-person, after being using telephone surveys in recent years.
Thank you to the more than 800 households who took part in the survey – your feedback is already helping us focus on the issues that matter most to you!
What we learned
The good!
- Community satisfaction in Moonee Valley was up 10 per cent on results from 2023 and 2024 – a significant improvement in sentiment. Satisfaction right now is also higher than the 20-year average! In total, one-third of respondents told us they were “very satisfied” with council’s performance.
- Our community really love a lot of the facilities and services offered within Moonee Valley – our libraries, waste collection services, leisure centres and sports facilities were among the things you love most about living in Moonee Valley.
- Compared to the rest of Melbourne, our residents were less likely to report issues with safety and crime, or issues with rubbish and waste.
- We were pleased to see you rated highly the professionalism and courtesy of our dedicated Council staff.
- Those happiest with our performance include: young adults, our ageing community and multicultural residents, as well as people living in Niddrie, Keilor East and Avondale Heights.
Things to work on
- The survey identified several areas the community want Moonee Valley City Council would like addressed. Traffic and roads, parking, planning and development (including the protection of local heritage) were among the biggest areas of concern to our community in 2025.
- Planning was also a bigger issue for Moonee Valley residents than people living in other Melbourne councils; while just eight percent of survey participants nominated planning and development related issues as a top three issue, that was double the metropolitan average!
- Residents who reported feeling dissatisfied with customer service from Council mostly reported slow response times as the reason for their dissatisfaction.
How we can improve
You told us the most important things we can do to improve our performance are:
- better and more frequent communication and consultation with the public;
- improved Council governance, management, and performance;
- better traffic management;
- lower Council rates, fees, and charges;
- improved road maintenance and repairs, and
- improved parking.
What we’ll do next
Council will continue to use findings from the survey to guide service planning, improve engagement and continue building a more inclusive, connected and responsive Moonee Valley.
