Rowena Martinich and Geoffrey Carran Regent Honey Eater mural Niddrie 2017. The mural depicts an array of vivid colours, featuring a small bird as the key subject matter, accompanied by native flora and plants.

Murals

Art boxes

Parklets

A photo taken at Hallkeepers Lane, which has been transformed into an outdoor dining space. Artificial turf lines the pavement, colourful geometric murals decorate the walls, and strings of fairy lights create an inviting atmosphere.

Laneways

A group of people walk down Pin Oak Crescent, which has been transformed into an outdoor dining space. There are seats and umbrellas where people can enjoy a meal or drink.

Moonee Valley is a city proud to ignite creativity in communal spaces and activity centres. We are home to an array of lively, unique and compelling murals that help decorate our community spaces, and improve street appeal for our traders.

Art infrastructure boxes

Improving street appeal across our activity centres starts with brightening up the streetscapes. We have been hiring local artists from around Moonee Valley to design and paint unique designs on existing street infrastructure boxes.

Laneways

We've been transforming tired ally ways and laneways around the city into vibrant communal dining and entertainment spaces for community members to enjoy.

There are a number of laneway activations across Moonee Valley, including:

  • Hallkeeper Lane, Moonee Ponds

Blocklets

What's better than a parklet? A blocklet! We've converted entire blocks around the city into spaces that locals can visit and enjoy. It's the perfect space to enjoy a coffee or bite to eat, soak up the surrounding atmosphere and connect with community.

Pin Oak Crescent is a blocklet in Flemington which hosts a shared open dining area which offers a great place to sit and enjoy breakfast, coffee or a glass of wine.

Planters and street scape improvements

We're eager to introduce more greenery to our street-scapes and activity centres. This includes a variety of planter boxes, pot plants, a decorations implemented in business precincts to improve the curb appeal and overall experience for visitors.

The Boathouse

The Boathouse offers one of the best restaurant/cafe locations in Melbourne. Perched on the banks of the Maribyrnong River and nestled among gums and wattles, with sloping grassy banks and post-card river views. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, and soak up the beautiful scenery. 

Curator's Collective Cottage

Located right in the middle of Queens Park Moonee Ponds, next to the playground, Curators Collective is a local cafe with delicious food and hot coffee. This venue is a popular spot for light meals, surrounded by the lush gardens of Queens Park.

Moonee Valley Racing Club

The City of Moonee Valley is the home of the Moonee Valley Racing Club which hosts Australasia’s Weight For Age Championship, The Cox Plate.
