Climate action grants for businesses.

Have a business in Moonee Valley? Want to reduce energy use! Install solar or save on water? Council has climate action grants that your business may be eligible for.

Work Tank Australia Pty Ltd, Niddrie

Work Tank successfully applied for Council’s Climate Action energy efficiency upgrade grant in 2022 and received $5,000 towards the installation of solar panels.

In their commitment to working greener and with more energy efficiency this grant enabled Work Tank to install solar panels on their co-working space that caters to over 100 members in Niddrie.

Work Tank said,

By working greener with solar power, Work Tank is able to offer its professional coworking space to everyone, knowing that we aren't contributing as much to energy emissions. Members and causal clients can use the complete set of meeting room facilities, virtual zoom room and technological services without the cost of energy consumption. Everyone who comes to work and collaborate at Work Tank is contributing to a greener way of working.

Thank you to the MVCC for granting us the project thus giving us the capacity to offer an environmentally friendly space for businesses and individuals to connect, collaborate and cowork.

Own a restaurant or café?

Have a coffee machine or drinks fridges? Council’s Business Energy Assessments found correctly setting your fridge temperature and using a timer to turn your coffee machine on and off can save your business a lot of energy and money, while doing your bit for the environment.

Did you know? By installing a $20 timer on a coffee machine you can program the machine to shut down over night and start up before you open – this simple $20 investment can save businesses up to $1,400 per annum on their energy bills!

Another easy win is checking drinks fridges are set to 4 degrees celsius.  Recent Council business Energy Assessments saved two businesses $358 and $116 per annum respectively on their energy bill, just by making this small, no cost, change.

Waste

We all have to be more aware of our impact on the environment. It's not just about what we do at home, businesses can be green too.

Circular Economy

The circular economy is about changing the way we produce, assemble, sell and use products to minimise waste and to reduce our environmental impact.

For businesses, it means reducing waste to landfill – saving money on rubbish collection fees and helping save the planet.

Examples of circular businesses include:

  • coffee shops working with community gardens so coffee grounds (waste for the café) become compost (a resource) for the garden
  • clothing businesses taking back old clothes (waste for the consumer) to make new textiles (new resource for the business)
  • hairdressers donating hair clippings (salon waste) to be used to clean up oil spills (resource).
