Work experience

Moonee Valley City Council is committed to offering student placements that provide people with valuable and insightful work experiences, help to solidify studies and strengthen employability skills in their chosen career.

We accept expressions of interest for secondary student work experience, university/tertiary placements and Duke of Edinburgh Award requests. These requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, and our programs work to accommodate placement requests, where possible.

Secondary/Year 10 work experience

Year 10 work experience placements are completed over 5 working business days and are paid $10 per day in line with the Department of Education guidelines.

If you are enrolled in year 10 and seeking to complete work experience, then please fill out the application below.

Tertiary placements

Council accepts applications for unpaid tertiary placements required by the courses they are enrolled in.

Tertiary students must provide:

  • university agreement documentation
  • personal accident and public liability insurance certificate
  • a copy of their WWCC card (when engaged in child-related work)
  • police check (where required). Please note that Council does not cover the cost of police checks.

Duke of Edinburgh Award activities

Council supports Duke of Edinburgh Award activities as we believe that this work empowers more young people to excel by building valuable life skills, gaining employment and accessing further education. Based on availability, our libraries do support Duke of Ed students in a volunteering capacity.

Students enrolled in the Duke of Edinburgh (Duke of Ed) Award process are required to volunteer 1 hour per week for over 3months.
