Moonee Valley is home to the Maribyrnong River, Steele Creek and Moonee Ponds Creek, which make up the lower reaches of the Maribyrnong Catchment before water flows to Port Phillip Bay.
Planning applicants in the City of Moonee Valley are required to meet stormwater quality targets onsite to reduce the amount of pollutants entering local waterways and Port Phillip Bay.
The Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) Voluntary Contribution Scheme provides an opportunity to allow planning applicants to offset a proportion (up to 20 per cent) of their onsite stormwater requirements through a financial contribution to Council. Council will use these funds to deliver WSUD capital works projects that deliver an equivalent stormwater quality benefits to the Maribyrnong Waterway Catchment and Port Phillip Bay.
