Wurundjeri Week 2023 Cultural Event

A bouquet of gum leaves is handed from one person to another

Wurundjeri Week is a time to acknowledge and celebrate the Traditional Owners of greater Melbourne including Moonee Valley.

The Wurundjeri People take their name from the Woiwurrung language word ‘wurun’ meaning the Manna Gum. This is common along ‘Birrarung’ (Yarra River), and ‘djeri‘, the grub which is found in or near the tree. Wurundjeri are the ‘Witchetty Grub People’ and their Ancestors have lived on this land we now call Moonee Valley for millennia.

We are committed to celebrating Wurundjeri Week in the Bagarru Bagarru Djerring Reconciliation Plan. To celebrate the Traditional Owners of the land, we will be hosting an event and invite our community to join us!
