Wurundjeri Week 2024

A Wurundjeri man conducts a smoking ceremony next to 3 waving flags

Wurundjeri Week is a time to acknowledge and celebrate the Traditional Owners of greater Melbourne, including Moonee Valley.

The Wurundjeri People take their name from the Woi-wurrung language word wurun meaning the manna gum, which is found along Birrarung (Yarra River), and djeri, the grub found in or near the tree. Wurundjeri are the ‘Witchetty Group People’ and their Ancestors have lived on the land we now call Moonee Valley for millennia.
