BMX Track gets green light for budget funding

Local outdoor recreational sports are getting a boost in Moonee Valley, with a new BMX track and updated tennis court set to be installed at Montgomery Park in Essendon.
Mayor of Moonee Valley, Councillor Cam Nation visited Montgomery Park recently to reveal a $550,000 funding package as part of Council’s 2021-22 Annual Budget.
As part of the announcement, an allocation of $300,000 for BMX & MTB facilities answers community calls for extra outdoor recreational activities for young across the city. Arising out of extended periods of lockdown during 2020, young people identified a need for more options to stay active and entertained during pandemic restrictions.
After hearing the concerns of young people involved, Council engaged the community for extensive community consultation, working together to harness the passion of the young riders and plan the future of BMX in Moonee Valley.
The upgraded tennis and basketball facilities, coupled with the new BMX pump track renew Council’s ongoing commitment to listening to the voices of young people, and creating spaces they can safely occupy and enjoy within their community.
