Community Recovery Committee

Moonee Valley City Council was successful in securing a grant from Emergency Recovery Victoria to fund recovery activities to support community, sporting clubs, community groups and businesses that were affected by the October 2022 flood event.

To ensure that the activities delivered meet the needs of affected community, we have formed a Community Recovery Committee to co-design the recovery activity plan. Recovery activities include community connection events, community meetings, workshops and training opportunities, community services support drop-in sessions and more.

Melbourne Water flood review

The final report of the Independent Panel led by Melbourne Water into the Maribyrnong River flood that occurred in October 2022 was published on 19 April 2024. The flood review considered the causes and contributors to the flooding of the Maribyrnong River catchment, including the Flemington Racecourse wall.

The new Maribyrnong River Flood Model is now available, and includes the 2024 and 2100 flood extent scenarios. You can register to attend a community session on flood education to be held on Wednesday, 26 June 2024 from 4pm at the Riverside Kitchen and Bar, Ascot Vale.

Staying Safe

  • Creek and River Trails – During heavy rain we advise residents to avoid walking, running or cycling along our creek and river trails.
  • Don’t drive through flood waters - Stay safe by never driving, riding or walking through floodwater. Flood waters can rise quickly and without warning. It takes just 15cm of floodwater to float a car – that’s the height of an average pen.
  • Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Find alternative travel routes if roads or underpasses are flooded.
