Staffing shortages are affecting FOGO bin collection in some areas

FOGO (green lid) bin collection in Moonee Valley been delayed for some residents in recent weeks. Our waste contractor, Cleanaway, has been affected by a shortage of qualified drivers to fill in for regular staff who are isolating as a result of the rapidly spreading COVID-19 Omicron variant. This problem is also affecting bin collection at other metropolitan councils.
Council has been working closely with Cleanaway to minimise collection delays and meet our service standards. Measures include drawing upon limited casual driver pools, sharing drivers across different waste and recycling streams and other councils to address gaps.
We recognise that these delays have caused inconvenience to residents and appreciate the community’s understanding that this is an unprecedented situation beyond Council’s control.
Any outstanding collections will be made as soon as possible. If your bin was due to be collected this week, please leave the bin out as Cleanaway will pick it up by Saturday 19 February.
