Sustainable energy ‘rockstars’ become video hits

Moonee Rocks the show written in dark green letters on a light green background

Not all climate heroes wear capes. But in Moonee Valley, some stars of sustainability are getting the bona-fide ‘rockstar’ treatment.

If you haven’t heard of The Solar Boss, Electric Wizard, Electro Rider or Solar Superman, then it’s time to tune in to ‘Moonee Rocks’.

Launched this week, Moonee Rocks is the City of Moonee Valley’s new campaign to encourage local home and business owners to reduce their carbon footprint, as part of its Let’s Go Zero strategy to reach zero net carbon emissions by 2040.

The Let’s Go Zero Rockstars campaign profiles four local Moonee Valley legends who are cutting climate emissions in different ways. Moonee Valley’s Council’s sustainability team worked with multi award-winning Melbourne agency ICON to create four short videos starring each ‘rockstar’.

The campaign is set on the imaginary music show, ‘Moonee Rocks’, with ebullient host Cal Wilde interviewing four local rockstars of sustainability: Jo, aka The Solar Boss, Peter the All-Electric Wizard, Adrian the Solar Superman and Rebecca the Electro Rider.

As the house band ‘The Statix’ chime in with bursts of hot licks and topical lyrics, Jo, Peter, Adrian and Rebecca explain the steps they took to reduce their emissions and save money on energy bills; from fixing draughts and applying for solar rebates, to home electrification plans and novated e-bike leasing.

City of Moonee Valley Mayor, Cr Pierce Tyson, said the Moonee Rocks campaign aimed to demystify the energy-saving options available to people, with many programs and tools available through Moonee Valley Council.

Moonee Rocks is a funny and flamboyant take on a very simple message – reducing your carbon footprint is not as hard as you think it is, Mayor Tyson said. And the people who are leading the way absolutely deserve the rockstar treatment.

For those who rock sustainability – we salute you.
