Ascot Vale Library renewal

Project summary

Ascot Vale Library is undergoing a major upgrade. The expansion and renewal of the library is in response to years of community feedback and consultation.

The redevelopment project will give more space to the community to support learning, creative programs and community events. Upgrades to the library amenities will make the library more welcoming and accessible to the local community.

Some of the key benefits of the upgrade will include:

  • an enlarged children’s area and significantly increased available study space
  • a digitally-equipped meeting space and multi-purpose spaces
  • increased public access to bookable spaces
  • additional public computers
  • internal and external specialist services will operate from library spaces
  • the whole of the library, including the first floor, will be accessible to people with mobility issues
  • public amenities
  • a public kitchenette.

This project will be funded by Council in conjunction with $1.5M in funds from the State Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, as well as $180,000 from the state government for the inclusion of an adult changing places facility.

Construction update

The precast concrete wall panels were installed in December 2024, achieving a major construction milestone.

These wall panels weigh up to 15 tonnes each, so it took months of careful planning and preparation to make sure the installation was completed without any hiccups.

Work is now progressing well towards the next milestone of having the building structure completed.

Installation of temporary public toilet

We have provided the community with an accessible temporary toilet located next to the Ascot Vale Neighbourhood Center, while the Ascot Vale Library Upgrade project is under construction.

This temporary toilet is accessible from the Union Road, as shown on the map below.

It will be open for use 7 days a week as per below:

  • March to October 7am to 6pm
  • October to March 6am to 8pm

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we complete this exciting upgrade to the Ascot Vale Library.
